You know that part of a story, near the end, where things just keep going downhill for the characters and it's hard to see the end in sight? That was this whole book for me. Things just kept getting worse and worse, the mysteries getting deeper and the characters more scarred.  I found myself reading other, more cheerful books, at the same time to try and break up the heaviness. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it; it was very well executed and I adore the characters (especially Aldasair, whom I relate to a lot), but don't go into this expecting sunshine and roses.

What a stellar sequel to The Ninth Rain. While I found Ninth Rain occasionally too slow, Bitter Twins stepped up the pace, the stakes, and the plot. The book started fast and continued on at that space. Williams writes with gory gusto when describing the villains and the battles. I'm not sure where she got the imagination to come with up with these grusome creatures, but I do enjoy reading about them.

I honestly had a great time reading this and would fly through pages when I found moments to read it.

Kudos to Jen Williams for naming these books based on items within the story. I love coming across the title within the story.
