I was quite disappointed with this really. After a very boring preamble, when the story actually kicked in, I thought it improved vastly and I got quite into it, but then the ending felt rushed and very anti-climatic. I also found myself skipping chunks of needlessly descriptive text - it's not a long book by any stretch of the imagination, but they were just totally unnecessary. I found it difficult to connect to a story who's crux is fundamentalist religion, and so struggled to enjoy large parts of it.

For a classic novel of sorts, this book had surprisingly intriguing writing, good characters, and an overall good story and plot, with good themes. And yes, I did read this one for school. But, still pretty good!
