The relationships between Aubrey and her friends seems to just rotate around her personal drama with all conversation either coddling her or obsessing over her and her annoying bouts of random shyness/ self depreciation.

The only thing I can think is "Cringe" as we have to listen to her and Jax repeat the same story over and over again about the fire and it changing their lives forever.

Does Jay really see Aubrey like a sister or does he just wanna get in her pants? Either way, I'm too off put to find out.

The Characters should not have ended up together, they were probably the most toxic couple I have ever read about.
Tropes: Toxic Relationship, brothers bf, second chance

One book and I’m hooked!!

In my quest to read a new to me author every month I have become an instant fan of Shain.  She writes emotionally charged stories that are going to transport you into her worlds and you aren’t going to want to leave.

Aubrey and Jax’s story spans years, from first love to forever love with a whole lot of bumps along the way.  Will love be enough for these two? Will they let their pasts define them?

Read this book, try something new, or maybe you have already read something by Shain and are a fan like
I now am.  I can’t wait to read more of her stories.  Don’t miss this one ! Jax is the perfect book boyfriend.

I would really have liked to have liked this book. I wanted to. I really did. But, this is a big ole DNF. And what I did read is a hesitate 2.3 stars.

It started off strong-ish. They were young, immature, and in high school. I expected their immaturity. I even understood why the H left the h. They were codependent on each other. It was unhealthy. And she DID need to process the trauma. She needed to find her new normal and needed to find herself after what she endured. So did he. So, I appreciated that he left. I appreciated his reasoning.

Then 6 years pass....and he's gone off and did his thing. And she remains stuck. After 6 years. She didn't find her footing. She didn't find her ability to stand on her own. She is still the lost little girl he left behind, and has done nothing to push past her demons, her insecurities, and her troubles. And then he comes back. And what's really different after 6 years? Not a damn thing.

Don't get me started on her codependent weak-ass friends who enabled her to be stuck in her trauma, stuck in her depression, just stuck in the cycle without any push for help, without any push to make her better. They can all fail to get their HEAs for all I care.

I honestly lost any sort of give a damn about her journey at that point. I really don't care if she gets her happy ever after. I don't care what he's done/not done in the last 6 years. Where is the character development? Where is the growth? Where is literally anything?

So, it's a big nopety nope nope for me. I blame #bookgram for this one.
