Normally I like Shain Rose but this one wasn’t for me.

This is my personal opinion, sorry if I offend anyone it really isn't my goal.

I felt like this book had no plot, it always came down to the same thing: they fuck, they get angry, no explanation, no apologies. there isnt any character development you could expect from characters in such a toxic relationship, and the story ends just like it began, no one evolved..

2.5 This was hard for me to rate. I can see where some people would like this book bc it has some good ideas and the writing isn’t terrible, it felt a bit clunky sometimes but overall I can tell there is hidden potential. Ultimately this book defines almost, I almost enjoyed it, I almost was invested, almost but not quite. Jax was a piece of crap and I could never buy any redemption. The big secret about why they separated was weak. The dynamic between them was toxic but not love. It’s romanticized toxicity and not well executed. Also, the whole time I was just thinking I wished it was her and Jay.

I liked and appreciated the writing style of this author. That said I probably won't read the rest of these books because it's not really my thing. I wanted to try a different kind of story and I'm glad I did, but I don't think it's for me.

I liked all the side characters but didn't super like Jax or Bret. Also, the way the story after the time jump made it seem like more than a decade had passed, not just 6 years. They were barely adults, I think this whole thing would have worked better if they'd been aged up.
