Plot has potential to be amazing but all the characters are dumb/annoying and so many subplots lead to a phenomenally disjointed and boring end.
Graphic: Murder and Suicide attempt
Moderate: Domestic abuse

My interest in this book was piqued by the unusual sci-fi premise, and it largely lived up to my expectations. The plot hooked me from the start, the writing style was engaging, the humour felt genuine, and the characters were loveable. It's a very British book, in its comedy and its sadness and its outlook on the world, which I enjoyed - I could very easily picture it as a sweet, slightly bonkers romcom starring Simon Pegg.
What I would say is that this novel didn't feel like a romance to me, so much as light, romantic speculative fiction - less about watching two people fall in love and more about watching two people who find themselves in love navigating a surreal situation. I know for a lot of people, this distinction wouldn't necessarily matter, but I suspect regular romance readers might find the central relationship a little dissatisfying. Personally, I was charmed and entertained, and I will look out for this author in future.

This book was recommended to be my @natashas_notes and then I won a copy of it at the Book Taster event!
It had actually been quite a while since I'd picked up a romance book when I started this one. I saved it for my holiday and I'm glad I did. It's a difficult book to review without giving too much away. I certainly enjoyed trying to work out what was going on and guessing before it was revealed! The book reminded me of One Day by David Nicholls (one of my favourite books of all time) and I think Bee and Nick will stay with me as Emma and Dex have! Do go into this book with your heart and mind open and I think it will touch you.
Two favourite quotes from this one:
"We'd already danced the swap-the-ex story fandango."
"Marriage typically symbolises the ending of the story. The happily ever after there's a reason why no one wants to see Cinderella 2: The Divorce. Or Beauty and the Beast: The Battle for Custody of the Candlestick."
