loved the book, it's not a typical romantic story, but realistic characters and storyline, that's what makes it so good in my opinion :)

Opowieść zaczyna się na pogrzebie Léona, w Notre-Dame wedle jego życzenia. Narratorem jest jeden z wnuków, syn najmłodszego syna, która na podstawie listów i wspomnień rekonstruuje historię miłości dziadka. Akcja rozgrywa się na tle wielkich wydarzeń historycznych - od pierwszej, po drugą wojnę światową. Szesnastoletni Léon znudzony szkołą opuszcza dom rodzinny i wyrusza do niewielkiej miejscowości, by rozpocząć pracę na stacji kolejowej. W całej Francji poszukiwani są pracownicy, więc nie jest mu trudno znaleźć zajęcie.
