This was a solid conclusion to a very immersive story. And the balance between plot and sex was just right, with a far more discerning eye for avoiding filler sex.

My god, I almost cried in so many place. The angst really went deep, and in a really satisfying way. I’m especially happy about the way free will vs fate was handled.

I’m extremely impressed by the ability to take an established relationship and force them apart for plot reasons while making it feel like it’s also character reasons. Normally I get really annoyed by plots that require characters to withhold information from one another, but it actually works here. Both Ash and Lonan are pent up and see the other struggling so they don’t want to burden one another with their shit. They’re also both in denial to a degree, so admitting their issues is like having to face the reality of the issues, and neither of them want to do that. Then when they do try to talk, they’re both so wound up that they fuck it up, leading them to explode into the plot.

With all that said, I do have some niggles that didn’t ruin the story but bug me nonetheless.

For starters, I feel like the use of “I’m fine” among fae is strange. Most of the time the phrase is used to partially lie, so I feel like it’s a lost opportunity for the fae to have their own dismissive sayings, like maybe “It’s not lava” or “could be better, could be worse.”

There’s also the matter of Caom.
I find it a little farfetched that he would have revealed his desire to cash in Ash’s Thank Yous right in front of Lonan. That’s way too foolish even for him, so that felt like a contrivance for the sake of the plot.

Finally,
that one random human that Ash meets… I’m mildly upset that nothing comes of it. Ash kinda abused his power, then thanked the human, and it’s just never brought up again. I know Ash is right about the human being irrelevant, but I feel like there’s a lack of closure.

Anyway, I’m really happy with the book and the way it ended. I tried to do my best to read slowly so I could savor it, and then next thing I knew it was over. Ugh I love this world, the characters, and the drama. Amazing trilogy.
