I’m glad Tom could use this book to let people know who he is, beyond Draco Malfoy. Wouldn’t want to trade places with him, but seems like he’s turned out a descent guy.

I thought this was a really great read. Fairly gentle and to be honest, somewhat refreshing in our current age of completely catastrophising everything.  Just a gentle reflection of someone’s life up until the age of 30-something, including the trials and tribulations that many go through.

Really lovely to hear about the author’s interactions with some of the late and great actors and actresses as well as the close friendships he formed with other cast and crew.  Also draws out his very close, loving and supportive relationship with his family.

Beyond the Wand

Do not read this if you’re hoping for the Draco character to resemble Tom.

One thing I loved about this book is Tom had different passions, and his parents encouraged them all. It’s great to hear different than the “successful” people who knew from day 1 what they wanted. “My mom encouraged me to have passions without forcing me to stick to them”. The diversity in his interests made the book interesting and relatable (as much as you can relate to a celebrity

I enjoyed this so much. What a fun read, especially for the HP⚡️heart of mine. But honestly I was fascinated with his life post HP. And his grandpas response at the end was the sweetest thing ever.

I'm sorry, but this was so poorly written. He overused the same phrases and described everyone in the most generic terms. It was like he had a list of people from Harry Potter he wanted to mention and just listed basic characteristics about them with absolutely no purpose or soul. Anyone who has seen behind the scenes footage or extras from HP knows MORE than Tom revealed in this memoir. The biggest letdown of all is that the last 40 pages were actually raw, honest and well written, with a genuine plot line and a unique perspective that I found interesting. Any time a privileged white man talks about mental health and normalizes therapy, I'm here for it. I just wish he'd structured the first 240 pages in a similar way. Oh Felton, you rotter.

Thanks Tom Felton!

5* if you’re a Harry Potter fan. Full of fun anecdotes from the filming of the 7 Harry Potter films with insight into all the top class acting talent that were on set with Tom Felton. He also has some very interesting thoughts on what made Draco the character act the way he did. 3* if you’re not a Potter fan. Over all 4*- A brutally honest account of what happens to a child actor when they loose the regimented life that anchored them.
