Having grown up with the HP characters and later on obsessing with the films (and predominantly the BTS material), I really enjoyed reading Tom’s set anecdotes, love for his co-stars and honesty about his acting career.
Although I sometimes felt the memoir/biography had some sugarcoating vibes here and there, having it read to you by Tom himself in the audiobook really makes up for it, as you do hear his love for every story, person and life event in his voice.
Good in-between audiobook for some light reading/listening

I listened to this one and really enjoyed it. It was a fast, easy listen and Tom's personality shines through while he narrates his story. It was so refreshing to get a real behind-the-scenes look at how life can be for a young actor after being part of something as huge as the Potter films. I truly didn't know all the struggles he had dealt with. It was also great to learn so much about his family and his relationships with other cast and crew from his various films/tv work.

Endearing & funny. A comfort to read & fun to learn more about this lovely, real human from his own perspective (and read by the author via audiobook).
Wonderfully narrated by Tom and an honest, generous look at the pressures faced growing up in the industry.
It was very enjoyable and entertaining.

I often feel like all celebrities are kind of dicks? But Tom Felton actually seems like a pretty nice guy. This memoir is probably 70% designed for HP fans and 30% touching on topics outside the HP space and more into standard memoir territory. It was interesting, funny and overall really enjoyable.
Highly enjoyed this. Loved that the audiobook was read by Tom himself. I'm glad he went through the good times as well as the tough times. Showing his humanity.

Beyond the Wand is one of the few books I’ve rated 5 stars, and for good reason. Tom Felton’s memoir is raw, comical, and deeply reflective. From stories of his childhood to behind-the-scenes moments from Harry Potter to life after the franchise, every chapter made me think, I could be friends with this guy.
The writing feels personal, like you’re having a conversation with Felton himself. His humor and self-awareness shine through, but what struck me most were the last few chapters. He doesn’t shy away from discussing his struggles with substance abuse and mental health, making this memoir not just entertaining but incredibly meaningful. His words about therapy, emotions, and vulnerability are ones I’ll carry with me.
Some standout quotes:
We’re only ever going to change the world for the better through discussion, through listening to other perspectives, and most importantly of all, through kindness
Feelings of sadness and happiness deserve equal mental screen time.
I’m no longer shy of putting my hands up and saying: I’m not okay.
I highly recommend this book, whether you’re a Harry Potter fan or not. Next time, I’ll be listening to the audiobook - hearing Felton narrate his own story will be an experience in itself. Truly a wonderful and insightful read!
