I’m not going to lie, I was disappointed in this book for a good majority of it. So much of it had to do with Harry Potter, and while I realize that should have been a given, I was looking for the content that I didn’t get to until chapter 26 and beyond. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy anything before - but it was a bit repetitive, and at times, seemed slightly arrogant. When Tom begins to discuss the heart of his issues with substance abuse later on, it pulled at my heart strings and really turned this book around for me. He talks about real emotion, the stigma around rehab, and much to do about mental health - I’m so glad to see someone with his status use his platform for this.
What started off as a nostalgic, cozy, goofy, Harry Potter behind-the-scenes story ended as a heart-wrenching tear-jerker that made me want to hug my family. So do proceed with caution. But wow, I would highly recommend Felton’s memoir. It had those fun, lighthearted moments that one would expect from Felton, but also some really meaningful discussions on substance abuse, boyhood, mental wellness, and friendship. So good.
