It's been a while since I read these books. The writing is not amazing and it has a lot of faults. AND YET I devoured this within about 24 hours. I do appreciate the fact that this book mostly sets up the next two books. I like these early iterations of the characters less, but also that is the point, to see how they develop over the series. Especially Andrew on his meds is just much less appealing to me as a character, compared to later in the series.Â
This does mean that I'm looking forward to the next book(s)!Â
I do have to say, that the writing definitely already picks up towards the end of the book, fromthe showdown at the tv show on you already get a good idea of what the next two books are going to look like, as far as character dynamics go.

Graphic: Violence, Acephobia/Arophobia, Addiction, Drug use, Alcohol, and Drug abuse
Moderate: Sexual harassment, Death of parent, Child abuse, Death, Sexual assault, and Toxic friendship
Minor: Fire/Fire injury, Suicide, and Suicide attempt

I'm going to get the things I didn't like about this out of the way first. This book was very dramatic and a bit ridiculous. I didn't really like that author's writing style and most of the characters are pieces of shit (except Matt and Dan. Renee is hella shady). Also, the pacing was a little weird, there were parts that moved very slow, and others that moved very quickly.
Now that I've gotten all of that out of the way, this book was so entertaining! It was like a soap opera, over the top and ridiculous but that what keeps me coming back! I probably would have read this faster if it had shorter chapters. And even though all the characters are assholes they were all so interesting and well developed. There 13 main characters, each very different from the other. Each one has its own quirks and distinct personalities. The only thing the characters have in common is they love Exy and have anger issues (OMG everyone on this team is so angry). It was an emotional rollercoaster. Some parts made me hate all the characters (except Matt and Dan) and others made me love them (almost). I was in a constant flux between joy and anger, I was thoroughly engaged the whole time!
I'm really looking forward to how much more ridiculous and messed up this series is going to get!

Neil dragging Riko on national tv gives me life! Neil should drag every character in the series like that!mariiblackthorn's review against another edition

Okay okay
