This is not a recommendation. This is a record of how much I loved them. If you like sports anime mixed with mafia anime mixed with american sports movies mixed with emotional trauma and homoerotic tension, check out trigger warnings and give them a shot. Or don't. But either way don't blame me.

That being said, I did read them twice in the space of a week so how am I not supposed to give them 5 stars
Solid over-the-top everything with a fake sport, real rivalry, and 2 guys shoving each other around
pretending it's not flirting

The best series I’ve read in a long time. I can’t get the characters out of my mind.

i think this is a solid 4 stars for me. while the plot is constantly all over the place (sports, mafia, drugs, violence, found family, gay guys???) and all the characters are messy as fuck, it is a captivating read all the same and i couldn't put it down until the very end.
even if the plot themes might be controversial, something that can't be denied is how well-written the story is. the writing style is very similar to maggie stiefvater's in 'the raven cycle' books, so if you're a fan of those, i'd give this one a shot :)
i did enjoy the story itself. it is well structured and it evolves at a good pace, never too obvious but hinting at what's coming next. the characters are original and come in nicely together, as a group they're very well balanced and developed. the sport side of the story is a clever counterpoint to the other sub plots, and i personally really enjoy how it compliments all the drama that the characters inherently carry with them. it lets the story breathe while also keeping a steady pace.
this is a very violent story though. maybe not that much in this first book, but it gets heavier as the plot progresses in the next ones. there's trauma, there's physical, sexual and emotional abuse, there's guns and knives and torture and self harm. if you're ok with these and are up for a dense, emotional tale, then you found the one.

I mean I think this is a great set up, I didn’t really feel connected to the characters. I hope the next book keeps me intrigued!

Finding out that this was originally supposed to be a manga explained everything and now I’m revising all my reviews to give it 5 stars because it is so fun. Truly the Riverdale of books. Bending the rules of reality because the author has never lived in reality.

Important: Do NOT take this as me recommending the series. Unless you’re my friend and you’re funny.

Why did no one tell me to read this book sooner? It was amazing and nothing at all like I expected. This story is definitely a character-driven story which is great because I love character-driven stories.

Honestly, this book is just mostly vibes. I feel like if I was looking at this book with a more critical lens I would give it a lower rating. But since I'm rating this book off of vibes, I'm giving it a 5/5 rating.

I'm excited to continue reading this series and see all of the character development with the foxes. I'm also scared to keep reading because I heard it gets more intense.

This is my all time favorite trilogy! I absolutely love this series and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Note: this book is VERY, VERY dark!! Please look at the content warnings because this book deals with a lot of triggers and trama.
