Did i understand Exy? No
Did i like the characters? I honestly don't know
Could i put it down? Also No

Something about this book dug its murderous lil fingers into my brain.

Think Haikyuu meets the Yakuza.

And for the love of god check the trigger warnings before reading this book because wow.

There are a lot of slurs used in the book, a lot of terrible things (past and present) that happen, a confusing made up sport and some very damaged and toxic characters but idk, something about it just makes me want to delve deeper into the story and characters.

I'm genuinely not sure of my rating for this and there were parts that were very uncomfortable for me to read.

CW: murder, physical abuse, child abuse, death, overdose, drug use, drug abuse, spiking, rape joke, use of the r slur and the f slur, death of a parent, burning a corpse, homophobia, violence, addiction, blood, injury, toxic relationship, mental illness,
state mandated drug use (this one is absolutely bizarre).
And probably more tbh

“Remember this feeling. This is the moment you stop being the rabbit.”

Is it problematic? Yes. Does it make sense? No. Is it poorly-edited? Yes. AND YET. Here I am, six months and two rereads later, with a bedroom full of foxes and Andrew Minyard fan art, simping over another murderous blonde twink, practically doomsday prepping for the release of The Sunshine Court. What has my life become?

It's been a while since I read these books. The writing is not amazing and it has a lot of faults. AND YET I devoured this within about 24 hours. I do appreciate the fact that this book mostly sets up the next two books. I like these early iterations of the characters less, but also that is the point, to see how they develop over the series. Especially
Andrew on his meds
is just much less appealing to me as a character, compared to later in the series.

This does mean that I'm looking forward to the next book(s)!

I do have to say, that the writing definitely already picks up towards the end of the book, from
the showdown at the tv show
on you already get a good idea of what the next two books are going to look like, as far as character dynamics go.

I loved it.
Seth's death was a plot device. Change my mind. You can't cause I'm right.

I'm rereading this triology and i am having the time of my life. The writting is very basic, but nora sakavik really does  know what we readers want to read, and that's why this book is soooo fast pace. I was having a reading slump, and this series was just what i needed. Now I’m actually excited to continue my TBR!!!!
Most of the characters are/were fucked up. I mean…👀

Neil still remembered Kevin's breakdown […]

And this😌

“God damn it, Minyard. This is why we can't have nice  things”
“Oh, coach,” someone said over Neil’s  head. “If he was nice, he wouldn't be any use to us, would he?”
“He's no use to us if you break him”
“You'd rather i let him go? Put a band-aid on him and he'll be good as new ”
