A solid collection of stories that include enough reality and magic that readers of all interests will find something to like. Keep these volumes coming, they're great! Recommended for grades 5-8.

Very beautiful anthology with different styles/genres to suit different tastes and all themed around the concepts of mysterious islands and the themes surrounding them like exotic destinations, the general enigmas and sometimes....traveling. Hard to choose a fav story but...radio adrift did have a fun magic school world premise crammed into one segment. I want to hatch a pixie too!

I really enjoyed Explorer 2: The Lost Islands. A collection of short graphic stories about Islands, some are life on the an island while others are about being stranded on an island. What I found interesting was that all the characters stranded on the islands have no idea how they got there...no lost at sea or shipwrecked stories.

Rabbit Island - I liked how the strips had a folksy comic feel, and the plot/theme was pretty straightforward. There wasn't a whole lot from the story at times, but it felt nostalgic to read. Wholesome stuff. 3 stars.

The Mask Dance - I loved the rich art style, and the deliciously creepy plot. It ends on a somber note, and only touches on the story's mythology, but this could have easily been the intro to a much larger story. Even though the story was only a few pages, it leaves an impact (especially when it comes to the characters, who we've only just met). 4 stars.

Carapace - The art and humor was cute, and I liked the bit of mythos that was thrown in. I think that the theme of islands and isolation lent itself much better to the overall theme than boxes did, and that really showed in this story, where we get a backstory related to the island. The ending was sweet - good morals about friendship and the promise of more adventure. 3.5 stars.

Desert Island Playlist - I don't think this had as much of an impact as some of their other works, but it was still enjoyable. The plot wasn't as cohesive for me, but I still really enjoyed the themes of independence v. reaching out, and the slightly supernatural part of the tale. The characters are engaging, even if the story wasn't fully explained. 3.5 stars.

Loah - The art style was cute, and reminded me of Disney/Pixar shorts. This was probably my least favorite of the group (I still enjoyed it, though) just because there wasn't a whole lot of depth to it compared with the other stories. Like I said, this would make a cute video (or maybe story for little kids). 3 stars.

Radio Adrift - I loved the aesthetic of the new age witchcraft, but I might be biased because parts of the story also reminded me of the podcast Welcome to Night Vale. The characters were adorable, and their stories made me really want to see more of them in a larger work (the magic of the story, the interviewees, etc). I also loved the art style, which reminded me of a lot of classic cartoons. 4 stars.

The Fishermen - The art style was gorgeous, as usual. I liked how the story alluded to greater ideas and desires, even though it only took place over a few pages. It's a snippet of a greater story, but it's obvious what the important parts to take away are. We only see a little of the characters, but their dynamics and motivations are obvious and enthralling. 3.5 stars.

Another great collection of stories with beautiful art. I especially loved the one with the festival and the masks. Some amazing art in that story.

Hooray! I love these comic anthologies, all these having the theme of islands. These are like the Flight comic anthologies, but much shorter. Can't wait for volume 3!

Excellent short graphic novel collection.
