Beautifully illustrated, simple story about present-day Cherokee people and their activities throughout the seasons. Includes Cherokee words as part of the English narrative accompanied by the words written in the Cherokee syllabary, definitions, and pronunciation guide. Perfect Thanksgiving book but also appropriate any time of year.

I love the word, otsaliheliga. What a beautiful word. It encompasses more than just being grateful but also thinking. “Celebrate our blessings and reflect on struggles.” Not just for one day but daily.

A beautiful story for all. I read the book and enjoyed the Cherokee words and pronunciations, as well as the notes at the end about culture and historical events mentioned throughout. The artwork was beautiful, and the book includes the Cherokee syllabary at the end.

As soon as I finished reading the book I check out the audiobook. It’s also a wonderful experience with multiple voices and background sounds that support the story. I feel like listening and following along in the book is the best way to experience this. Highly recommend.

Just beautiful!  This book allows us a glimpse as to the seasonal life of Cherokee folks, and allows us a glimpse into their language and how they express thanks and gratefulness for all the things around them.  And with the added glossary and Cherokee alphabet, this book becomes more than just entertainment--it becomes learning material, too.  With homey illustrations and a narrative that remind us of what's good in our lives, is definitely a book to write home about.

Review cross-listed here!

This picture book celebrates the seasons and the Cherokee heritage. There are some helpful definitions in the back, as well as a Cherokee alphabet.

What a beautiful book. It highlights modern Cherokee life through a year and all that they are grateful. The illustrations remind me of artist Carmen Lomas Garza in the truth and narrative of the depiction of life and the story teaches and honors the Cherokee story.
