Vigilante feminist killer book with some great twists and very well written! I loved this. I love when an author writes an excellent full complex character that you should be rooting against because they are a murderer but then you find yourself rooting for them…

I like the two different views. I felt the author went seamlessly between Scarlett and Carly . She also starts and ends every chapter excellently which makes the book super propulsive. There are a few things  that are far fetched which is why it’s a 4.5 instead of a 5 but tbh I’m okay with it because of how well written this book was. I loved the feminist feeling, how sexual assualt was handled , and also the lgbtqia rep. I will for sure be checking out more from this author.

I don’t want to hype this book up too much… but it’s the first mystery/thriller I’ve read in awhile and it did not disappoint.

I loved the writing of this book. I loved the different POVs and how everything was so strategic. There wasn’t anything in the story that didn’t need to be in there. ⁣

𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐭: Scarlett Clark is an English professor with a killer secret. Each year she finds the most awful and abhorrent man on campus and murders them, often staging them to look like suicides. Unfortunately people have started looking into the growing body count at the University as Scarlett works to keep her secret.

Meanwhile, Carly Schiller is a shy and overwhelmed freshman student - just hoping to start a new life away from her abusive father, while quietly making it through her first year. When her charismatic roommate is assaulted at a party though, Carly's time in college quickly changes.

Does the idea of a feminist Dexter sound like a good read? If so, read this book.

Look. Scarlett is a brilliant, but cold-hearted killer. But she makes a point of going after only the worst - men on campus who have assaulted and raped and faced no consequences. Is she a bit overkill (pun intended)? Probably. Is it a delightfully fun thriller read? Definitely.

For thriller and horror fans alike - I really enjoyed this book. (read mostly on audio book, and the 2 narrators are great)

Is it weird to call a book from the POV of a serial killer "fun"? 'Cause this was.

We follow Dr. Scarlett Clark, an English professor with a peculiar hobby - murdering evil men. Don't worry: from her perspective, they certainly all deserve what they get.

This is the bisexual revenge fantasy thriller of your dreams (or nightmares). It's filled with dark humor and vigilantism and queer angst. It's beyond devourable.

If you are someone who struggles to stay engaged while reading - this may be your cure. The chapters were SUPER short (typically no more than 5 pages) and most end on a cliffhanger as we switch between POVs. It's like a cheeky drama show cutting to commercials. You've got to keep going!

There was a twist. I guessed it immediately. It didn't lessen my enjoyment in any way.

Is this some deep, nuanced take on sexual violence and rape culture and gender dynamic? Not really. It's not subtle at all. It's just for kicks. And it was a REALLY fun way to spend an afternoon. (I'd watch this show. Give me a show!)

CW: murder, death, sexual assault, violence, sexual harassment, rape, blood, sexism, misogyny, abuse, stalking, toxic relationship, fire, vomit, infidelity, bullying, drugging

the book focuses on sexual assault but doesn't go into it with the nuance it needs

pros

- the assholes got what they deserved
- showing how women can also be complicit (however they never go in depth about it)

cons

- every straight guy being the spawn of satan
- the ending being a little too perfect
- the twist was predictable, the author left too many clues for me at least
- it really wasn't thrilling

overall this book wasn't bad just meh, watch promising young woman instead
