This was *great*. Sometimes even I struggled with the format of this book - but I love script format and couldn't have seen this book be done in any other way. By the end I was fully invested

The energy of this book ebbed and flowed for me - I think the main characters’ mother stories were developed so well, but the rest of the stories fell a bit short and I did not connect with it as strongly.

As one other reviewer put it…this is a novel, written like a screen play, that you read like poetry.

A creatively written book about the Asian experience in America - and I definitely related to some of the Chinese American aspects - but, it does have some interesting takes of comparison to the Black experience that are minimizing and questionable.

Really impressive execution; straddles the line between fiction and social commentary (if there is a line) in a way that powerfully examines what it means to be Asian in America.
