Ummm.

What the what was that? I didn't quite follow the story but maybe I am just sleep deprived. I kind of got what was going on but am still left with a sense of confusion. This is the 4th installment in this series (I've read the previous ones) and is nominated this year for a Hugo Award in the Graphic Novel category.

As always, the artwork is stunning and detailed. And I would read a spin off series just about that little fox girl alone. However, the overall story arc of this edition left me scratching my head a bit.

Vol 4 did not disappoint. Now the wait for vol. 5.

The story is really advancing and it moves around a decent pace now. And it really is quite easy to fall into the page turns.

If you are not following Monstress, you are passing on the opportunity to look through a very special keyhole and into a world of fantastic, cruel, Eldritch, matriarcal horror. Fair warning, though: the twists and plots will necessitate of your immediate, issue to issue, attention. I had to reread all the previous volumes all over again to understand this one.

MONSTRESS, VOL 4: THE CHOSEN has some big reveals and plot twists but it also makes things really confusing. There are a lot of characters with mysterious intentions and unknown alliances and I'm no longer sure who is on the good side or the bad side or if there even is a good and bad side.

Content Warning: Images of graphic violence, cannibalism, torture, experimentation, and enslavement

Very intricate, lots of plotlines. I'm hoping I won't forget all of it before the next volume is available. It's easy to get lost and forget important details from previous issues, but it's awfully beautiful.
