Add together Paris and zombies and I'm in.

I had no idea really what I was getting into when I started Die for Me. I figured I'd be disappointed, and there would be a Twilight-esque romance that would just annoy me. But I was pleasantly surprised!

The love story was great! Finally, we get a male love interest who is willing to let the girl he cares for go if she needs to escape the crazy of his life. Vincent gives Kate all the choice in their relationship. He lets her know what he wants and thinks, but recognizes her autonomy.

There isn't insta-love either, which is a relief. By the end of the book (which spans a few months), the two definitely have strong feelings for each other, but they don't say "I love you." They recognize that their relationship is new, and they treat it that way. It's a breath of fresh air.

I loved the revenants, too. Give me zombies in love any day, but put a twist on them and I'll love them even more. I don't want to spoil anything, so let's just say that these aren't your average zombies. They're much more lively (sorry I had to) and have a specific purpose. It's a super original idea, perhaps a bit difficult at times, but very interesting.

The plot and action could've been better, it's true. The first half didn't have much action or plot movement, but I was okay with that because we were learning more and more about Vincent and then the revenants. The ending was also kind of rushed, but again I didn't mind much. So though it may seem like these things would reduce my rating, I just loved Die for Me so much that I couldn't give it less than 5.

I had a very busy week and because of this I found myself picking this up and putting it down many times. I did really enjoy it but I think I would've enjoyed it more if I could have had a longer sitting. The paranormal idea for the story was new and interesting, very different compared to lots of other teen paranormal books I've read lately. I don't want to give too much away about what Vincent is but I would recommend this book to people who love paranormal teen novels. I'm looking forward to the release of the second to see what happens next between Kate & Vincent (don't particularly like his name but oh well).

Listen, when people say "for people who enjoyed Twilight" it is always a recommendation for me as we all know I will love Twilight until my dying day

No vampires here though

I can't even remember anymore how I discovered this series and when I got this book. I think it might have been part of a book exchange or something. However, like so many other books I buy (still more than I can actually read) this book has been rotting away on the shelves for quite some time. For a reading challenge I needed a book with a pinkish sort of color on the cover though and I rediscovered this one. I had no idea what to expect, so I started without expectations.

I was very positively surprised by this book. Yes, it's a typical old school YA novel. We have a normal girl, losing her parents, moving cities, who then encounters someone supernatural. Instead of doing the reasonable thing, staying away from her, the guy is instantly in love and pulls her into a world that's dangerous and a little weird. And no matter how much I love the more modern books, once in a while I really need a read like this.

I was kinda surprised that the author hadn't included a love triangle into this novel, which is usually also a guaranteed ingredient of these old school YA novels, but I really enjoyed all the dates, the moment she discovers that something is going on. I especially liked that there was a moment she really was trying to run away because she didn't wanna live this kind of life. I was also very happy that they found their way back to each other again.

I was mostly positively surprised by the mythology, though. I haven't read many zombie books so far, but the author did an amazing job making the revenants different from any other supernatural and paranormal creature I've encountered before. At times the explanations were a little complicated and I'm not entirely sure about the rules on how to become one, but I really loved the endless sacrificing yourself to save someone else's life element.

I ordered the rest of the series right away and I can't wait to read the sequel!

Vincent is a French dream. He sets the bar high for YA male interests. Amy Plum did a great job on this book and she gave me a beautiful image of Paris. I cant wait for more!

Ok so this book has more romance than thrill so be prepared for that. And even though it didn't have its heart racing moments...it was still a pretty good book. It kept me reading and I enjoyed all of the characters and I am excited to read the next one
