I loved this book. It is so powerful and thought provoking. It truly is a story about the beauty and complexity of shared lived experiences.

This was an exploration of what it means to be a women, what it means to be black, what it means to be lesbian, and what it means to be a black woman who is a lesbian. I realized that while I have read numerous books about the white gay experience, and several about the BIPOC gay experience, I have read a lot fewer about the lesbian experience and even fewer if any of the BIPOC lesbian experience. It was good to read more about an experience that I am not as familiar with.

Audre Lorde’s way with words is truly otherworldly and whatever I read next will seem dull in comparison. What a beautiful beautiful book.

This is the kind of book where you know what you’re reading page by page and it’s beautiful (the amount of sentences and passages I marked is ridiculous) but you don’t know what the book is about until you get to the end. And then once you know what it is about, every page is even more beautiful than it was before.
