Hmmmm. The first half of this book was incredibly dull. Once the banter picked up I started enjoying it a lot more. Perhaps because it was written in third person I just didn't feel connected to Kitty or her cause at all. I didn't feel the anxiety or urgency that she said she had. I think part of the problem was that we didn't have enough moments where we were in her head or where she was alone. A lot of tell, not show. I would have been more interested to read a book about Aunt Dorothy, actually.

Also, we didn't get to see how the rest of Radcliffe's family reacted to finding out about Kitty's lies. That was another thing I was caught up on - there was a bit of banter about her being a liar and a fortune hunter, but I expected there to be a bigger fall out when people other than Radcliffe found out about it. But we didn't get it at all!

AND whoever wrote the blurb on this one, write a better blurb next time please.

INCREDIBLE BOOK!!! I WENT IN BLIND AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE PLOT ENTAILED OTHER THAN WHAT I COULD DEDUCE FROM THE TITLE AND AS SOON AS THE AUTHOR DESCRIBED ONE OF THE DUDES AS "SECLUDED" I WAS LIKE OOOOOOOOO THAT'S HIM!! THAT'S THE LOVE INTEREST!!!!! AND IT'S BEEN SOOOO LONG SINCE I'VE READ AN ACTUALLY GOOD TRUE SLOW BURN SO THAT WAS A TREAT AND A HALF LIKE IT WAS SO GOOD I ALREADY WANNA REREAD MY FAV BITS AHHHHH.

Such a light, funny and heart-warming story.
I only stuck with this book on my second try. But I am so glad I did! I love the main characters, they are so well written, I could feel their doubts and their plights as if they were my own.
Absolutely wonderful ❤️

I actually thought it would be better than it was. I liked the scheming, but the plot was so Pride and Prejudice it was unoriginal. The characters were ok, and the slow burn romance a good pace and felt authentic. But there was just no real spark of attraction between Kitty and James, they could easily have been platonic what with their witty conversations and spilled secrets.
