Pretty meh. I predicted the whole plot after about 50 pages and I'm not usually very good at doing that. If you like the genre, you'll probably enjoy it, but not love it.

I was just about to finally get tucked into A Lady's Guide to Scandal, when I realised that it was book two... I'm not sure if I really needed to read these in order, or if they are more like companion novels, but I thought I may as well give A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting a listen, to get acquainted with the 1800s period and our characters.

Out characters are group of sisters, focusing on Kitty who is trying to secure herself a marriage (mainly a fortune) to keep her sisters from poverty, after being left with a burden of debt from their late parents.

This was a fun story, with a rambunctious heroine and a good frenemies to romance plot. I enjoyed seeing Kitty scheme her way into the upper echelons of London society in order to bring her family into high esteem and nab a favourable (read: wealthy) marriage proposal.

Despite my above delight, I wasn't super invested in the story and I know there was large chunks that I just didn't absorb. I'm not sure if I will go and pick up the sequel after all now, but if I do, it will probably be via audio at a later date.

Another delightful Austen-esque cozy novel (also full of winks and nods to the Queen of Regency Romance). This one was fairly predictable, but in a way that made it feel familiar and not like I beat the author to the punchline. The narrator was a new-to-me voice, but I enjoyed listening to her!

...now I just have to get back to reading REAL Austen for the 2025 Austen Challenge.
