I loved this book! Light and fun, but quite intelligent and not overly sappy. Very well written. I can't wait to read the next one!

A cute, clean regency-era novel that is remarkably similar to Bridgerton. It was a little slower paced at points and some plot strings were left unresolved. I also wish the main love interests had more face time together or even that we got more glimpses of the side plots with other characters. The novel mainly focuses on the plot points of the main character and descriptions of balls and the social customs of the time period. If you're interested in that era, this would be a good book for you but if you're expecting a sweeping romance, definitely skip it.

A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting is a delicious debut with a scandalous regency romance plot full of turns and turns as protagonist, Kitty, embarks on a mercenary mission in a race against the clock to ensnare a rich husband to save her sisters from poverty and Lord James Radcliffe who tries to thwart her efforts after trying to bewitch his younger brother. The writing is charming and engaging, full of plenty of twists and turns, wickedly funny tongue-in-cheeky banter, and vivid descriptive scene-setting, bringing to life the glittering ballrooms and bustling streets of Regency London at the height of the season.

Sophie Irwin has created a compelling cast of characters who will ensnare your heart with their wonderful personalities and strength of heart. Protagonist or side characters, you will be captivated by them. Kitty is a headstrong, determined, and resourceful realist with a morally grey edge – she won't back down from a fight and always has another ace up her sleeve when her plans are interrupted. James has a strong moral compass and protective instinct, and under his grumpy exterior is a heart of gold, struggling to live with PTSD from the bloody carnage of the Napoleonic Wars.

The slow-burn pace of the relationship between Kitty and James was perfect, allowing them to come to know each other with raw honesty naturally. I loved James and Kitty's sparkling chemistry, which made them perfect sparring partners and partners in crime who stand toe-to-toe as equals. They see the worst of each other through their interactions and spats, only to come to love each other, warts and all, as hate becomes love and mistrust into respect.

A whimsical and wickedly funny Regency romance that was an absolute page-turner of a read – I couldn't stop reading once engrossed in the turns and turns of this riveting romp. If you love Bridgerton vibes and Jane Austen's novels, A Lady's Guide To Fortune Hunting will charm you with its delightful plot, unapologetic boldness, and refreshing storytelling.

3.5 ☆ maybe i had too high expectations, maybe i was expecting a lot of angst, maybe i was hoping for a bit more spice… all i know is my expectations fell a little flat; it was a cute slow-burn romance, but i wanted more

How I would have loved just one more chapter. Though it did also almost make me cry so many times.
