Kitty Talbot has three months to catch a wealthy husband before her father’s debts are called in. Unfortunately her attempts to manipulate the kind but naive Archie de Lacy have been foiled by his older brother, Lord Radcliffe. Radcliffe knows a fortune-hunter when he sees one, and is determined to keep Kitty away from his family at all costs. But can he protect his heart as well?
This book was completely contrived, full of manufactured scandal, and saccharine to the point of making my teeth hurt — it was fantastic! I appreciated the main characters’ darker edges. They’re more complicated than the typical romance characters: Kitty is actually mercenary and has strong feelings about male hypocrisy, and Radcliffe is working through the trauma caused by his involvement at the Battle of Waterloo. I alternated between rolling my eyes, giggling, and posting dramatic “squee!” gifs in my book club chat. I think it would have been just as good were it a little bit shorter, but overall it was a delightful time.
This one’s a perfect light-but-not-too-light read for February.

This book surprised me!!! I picked it up on a whim, without reading the blurb and expecting just a breezy lighthearted read. But the book was more than that!!
I love it when eldest children get the spotlight that shows how much of responsibilities lie on them to always do the right thing by sacrificing your wants and needs!
Kitty was funny, witty and so so clever! She was a riot and it was so much fun watching her take everyone for a ride in search of a wealthy husband! Mrs Bennet could never! XD And every time Radcliffe sighed seeing Kitty’s antics added more to the fun.
The third act was the most fun! The simultaneous rescuing that was going on was hilarious!!
This book was so good and full of so much warmth and laughter. The quiet moments between the leads were so tender. My only complaint was the lack of a long epilogue where I wanted to see the wedding and all the sisters interacting with their smitten brother-in-law!

First book I picked up and finished since I fell into a reading slump at the start of the year. Also the first fiction novel that I've read in German in a couple of years, I was positively surprised with the writing style, especially since I started another German romance in winter and the writing style didn't click with me at all.
Didn't know what to expect going in so I was always waiting for something big to happen, in the fashion of most other regency romance I've read before, but it didn't. But for me that's a good thing and I liked it!
I don't know why it took me so long, it literally says it on the back, but it took me until the last couple of pages to realise that this was heavily inspired by Pride and Prejudice. Very slow and in comparison with other regency romance novels subtle with the romance, so one needs to tailor their expectations accordingly or you might get dissapointed.
Reminds me of The Harlow Hoyden, but this one's a little more subdued.
