I found that Kitty the character was too anachronistic for the regency time period. It felt like the author put a woman from the 2020s into the regency period. Her opinions and beliefs felt too modern for the time. And sharing those opinions so directly with Radcliffe (and others) felt more like a hit over the head. It felt unbelievable and took me out of the story. And I also didn't think it was quite believable that she and her sisters wouldn't know anything about society in London, which is basically the epicenter for culture.
If you're looking for a beach read that closely follows the morals of today, then you'll like this one. But if you're more interested in how a person can work within the confines of a restrictive society and still manage to be okay, then this isn't really the book for you.

Perfect summer read for Bridgerton and Jane Austen fans! It's a frothy Regency era summer read that kept me entertained for every page. It's simple, but so pleasant. Even though you could smell the enemies turned lovers trope from miles away, it still somehow felt fresh and a little surprising. I really liked the main characters, who seemed three-dimensional and quite well-developed.
I almost wish I had saved this for a beach vacation, but it's definitely got me craving a rewatch of Emma or Pride and Prejudice! One note for those that live for the steamy scenes in Bridgerton - you won't find those here, but I think it works perfectly as is.

I adored Kitty and really enjoyed her doubling down on her principles while learning to be softer and kinder. I also liked the realistic buildup of her indifference/animosity/friendship with Radcliffe over several weeks and various conversations at balls - it felt very natural and grounded. I just wish there was more yearning and another chapter for the romance denouement, like cmon let my girl be ravished
