Not bad, but not great either. The main character was ANNOYING. She asked too many questions and came off as she knew best for everyone. The ending was also ANNOYING. The "bad" person was revealed in the dumbest way and there was no real closure.

This book was a struggle almost from the beginning. While I enjoyed the author's other novel I can't say the same for this one. All of the characters grated on my nerves. The final reveal would've been better had whodunit not been spoiled halfway through the book, IMO. I only finished it, in part, because I didn't want two DNFs in a row and at least it was a fast read.

Oh wow! What a fast paced story! Told in the first person perspective of Kenna with some sprinklings of the other characters, we get a story that challenges the waves, friendships, and love. On a secluded beach, these characters live and survive with the help of each other. It’s interesting how they each have their responsibility on camp and how they seem so loyal to each other but would also turn in a second. This book had me guessing through the entire thing TO THE END! I still was hoping for more and maybe more of a realization from our main character. But this book is still such a good suspense!
4/5 stars for surfing, friendships, murder, and fear!

Kenna's best friend, Mikki, is about to make the biggest mistake of her life. She is about to marry a complete stranger on the other side of the world. A complete stranger, as far as Kenna knows. Someone she hasn't even bothered to introduce properly to her so-called best friend. So, to prevent something terrible from happening, Kenna leaves London and flies to Australia to stop her best friend's wedding. When she finally gets there she can't help but notice the multiple "MISSING" posters of backpackers that have come to Australia in search of the perfect wave. She even meets a terrified mother that is currently in search of her missing daughter. Distraught, she arrives at Mikki's house and receives not precisely a welcoming embrace. Things are off and odd. Kenna can feel this. Mikki's fiancé invites Kenna to camp with them since they were already heading out. Kenna reluctantly agrees because she just traveled across the world and she won't leave until she can properly talk to her best friend.
The camping spot is by the coast and in the midst of a national park. They found the perfect inhabited spot with the perfect beach and the perfect waves. Kenna is struggling hard. The sport that she loved the most has also taken from her in tremendous proportions and she refuses to get sucked back into that world. She knows what is a stake. The tribe, as they call themselves, is a bunch of surfers that share the same passion and dedication to the sport. Worse than Mikki's welcoming, The tribe goes ballistic on Jack, Mikki's fiancé, for bringing another stranger to their sacred place. After much persuasion, they let Kenna stay and even invite her to join the club. Kenna is here only to ensure that when it's time to go back home, Mikki is on the plane with her, so she agrees to become part of them. Dipping her feet back on the water and getting back on that board is dangerous but it is something she must do. Soon she begins to see the cracks in the group, the flaws, the edginess, and their recklessness. Soon she understands how dangerous they are. They are all hiding secrets, many secrets. They are all in on it. Even Mikki. Will Kenna be able to save her best friend from The Tribe, or will she need to save herself first?
This book griped me from beginning to end. The suspense in it was devastating. Every time Kenna went into the water, I felt like I could not breathe, The adrenaline was real knowing that she couldn’t trust anyone and reading about her trying to solve the puzzle and save Mikki was incredible. I was not expecting to enjoy this book so much. It came at the perfect time. It is the perfect suspense/thriller for a hot summer. I absolutely loved it. This one is high up there on the best book I've read this year. I will definitely be purchasing it later.

How do I start to describe the way this book fell flat?
We have a cast of unlikable characters following Kenna who has no social skills at all it seems and shows up into a group of close knit surf friend and IMMEDIATELY starts accusing them of being bad people which, to be fair, some of them are.
There was really no conflict resolution in this book and *major spoiler* but psychopath Mikki who KILLED 3 PEOPLE just walks free with no suspicion because “she’s so small and gently” while also being described as incredibly strong and vicious on the waves.
It gets an extra star because the writing at least wasn’t straight up garbage I GUESS???
Anyways, save yourself some time and money and get a better book.
