Adult Goosebumps vibes. Never been into short stories but this made me think I should try to give it another go. Pretty much enjoyed every story — I’d say the book is in between fast and medium pace.

After rating each story and averaging out, it came to 3.55, but I'm going to round it up to a 4. I've written notes for each story in the book itself so won't go on to review each one (note for future Rachel to remember).

There was so much to chew on over the ten stories in this collection-- there were displays of the grotesque, absurdity, bizareness, fairy tales, sadness and despair, undertones of haunting, greed, guilt, and more. If any of that fits your flavor of choice, this is a worthwhile read.

Maybe somethings get lost in translation? But most of the stories weren't really scary it thriller-y. Some were better than others

This collection of genre bending short stories tapped into some parts of my brain and now I can’t stop thinking about them all the time.

Each story had its own world building, with unique circumstances, and the magical realism evoked eerie feelings. Please be smarter than me and do not - I repeat - do NOT read these stories past bed times if you can’t afford showing up to work with little to no sleep.

Here are my two cents on the individual stories:

1. The Head
One word: Mommy?

2. The Embodiment
This was interestingly building up towards something sinister. And also: Mommy?

3. Cursed Bunny
10 out of 10. Magic realism as it finest, perfectly executed. A story I wish I’d cooked up and written.

4. The Cold Finger
Oh my gosh, this was such an haunting read.

5. Snare
Cruel, dark and fantastical. Shows how greediness kills all.

6. Goodbye, My Love
Black Mirror vibes, thought provoking.

7. Scars
It was good, but I liked the other stories more.

8. Home Sweet Home
Nice, twisty, and nothing turns out as it seems.

9. Rulers of the Wind and Sand
Incredibly atmospheric, touches all senses, and has a great fable-vibe.

10. Reunion
Sad and odd, and a bit unfinished.
