  1. Rape of a child, the fae know it’s going to happen and don’t do anything and think she needs to suffer in order to grow and break the curse, then she is GRATEFUL she gets pregnant from the rape. Our MC has no agency, she is a tool for breaking the curse and hasn’t been able to make her own decisions or choices almost the entire book. Only the first act of rebellion at the beginning. I was enjoying this and even after the rape happened but the more I think about it the more frustrated and angry I get. ALSO the dog dies. Wtf????

Ohhh boy, where to begin? I found this whole book completely frustrating. Never mind the main character is SA’d and the response to that is basically “you’re not the first and won’t be the last, get over it” What?!?! And when Sorcha finally does complete her task her brothers are ungrateful assholes and are confusing protectiveness with arrogance. The only thing I liked about this book was was Sorcha and Red’s relationship. But everything else was horrible, couldn’t stand the amount of dicks in this book, and honestly I was so done that I couldn’t make myself read the last 10 pages. Very disappointing considering the good things that was said about this book.

This is a well written emotional roller coaster of a fairy tale.  I literally could not put down the book and read it in one day.  The author did an amazing job of interpreting the Grimm Brother's Tale "The Six Swans" (or "the Wild Swans") in a way that makes you feel the literal pain that both the sister and the six brothers feel as they work to break a curse on their family.  In the process they are all presented with very real set-backs and trials.  Please note that this book contains references to torture and rape.  While it is a fairy tale, I would not recommend this book to young readers.

an incredible retelling. my only complaint is the large and unnecessary age gap between the main character and the love interest. if that hadn't been there it would have easily been 5 stars, perfection.

By turn delightful and devastating both. I don't have the energy for lengthy review, but safe to say this retelling of the story of the girl whose brothers were turned into swans is a beautiful one, full of the majesty and magic of Ireland, and all the fierce power of love and strength of will against unimaginable odds. I loved it.

Important trigger warnings to be aware of: SpoilerRape, emotional manipulation and abuse, physical abuse, starvation and disordered eating, self-harm by means of work/stings from a plant, animal abuse/murder, death of a parent, general violence.
For those sensitive to animals done harm: SpoilerThe dog does die - one at least. There is harm done to animals and whilst it is not discussed in excessive detail, the protagonist's narration of it does not gloss over.
