Alright.... so I really, really wanted to read this. But I couldn't. I loved the Buffy feel, but the transitions were sorely lacking and the insta-sex just rubbed me wrong. Maybe it was my mood of the day, that happens. Sometimes I am just not in the right mind set for a certain style - but that can change in a week. Maybe I will return to this book another day.

Vampires Don't Give Hickeys by Holly Ryan is book one in The Slayer’s Reverse Harem series that I listened to on audio narrated by Melissa Schwairy.

This is the first book of Holly’s that I read and it definitely won’t be my last. The book does end on a cliffhanger but that’s okay because books two thru five are already released on audible.

Melissa did a great job on her narration. This is my first time listening to her work. I liked that she used different tones for the characters so it made it easy to follow along. I did have to listen to the story at 1.5 speed because otherwise it was to slow for me.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Vampires or Reverse Harem books.

Not a fan

I wanted to like this book, but just didn't. It was too similar to Buffy in a lot of ways, and I didn't feel and of the relationship or character building. I will not be continuing the series.

Stuff Your Kindle.... strikes again. I'm not going to lie, I may have to stop getting free stuff on these big events because you end up with a lot of bad writing.

I don't know how a slayer suddenly is the one person a demon/devil wants to marry, or why he'd have been sending her money, or why he cares. But he is. And so to try and get out of this, Belle decides she's instead going to start hanging out with three vampires. Hanging out, you know what I mean. Within 24 hours she's banging vampires -- so not only is this against what a slayer would probably do, it all happens very instant-quick and makes no sense.

There's a story here. It is just shrouded in stuff that makes very little sense. There are moments where everything is rushed. It just... it just isn't great.

Can a book just be a plot hole?

This book throws you right into the middle of a Buffy The Vampire Slayer like universe; where one of the main differences is that vampires aren't that creepy looking.

Belle is a vampire slayer, and is immediately threatened by her impending death - only if she doesn't marry the Devil. She manages to befriend three vampires - despite her job being to kill them - and they help her in discovering the truth behind her Slayer history, training properly and in managing her lustful thoughts.

This was a quick read that was fun and didn't require a lot of attention. The plot was interesting, if you actually want to pay attention to it, and the smut elements were added in to fit around it nicely. I have seen other people comment that the motivations for the characters do not make sense, and I do want to second that, but as long as you aren't looking for a deeply thought provoking book and want to have some fun, this book is worth picking up.

What an interesting start to a series.

The book first caught my eye while I was on the search for more reverse harem books on amazon, it was free and the cover is pretty eye-catchy. The author is also new-to-me. So, one-click and now we are here...
The book is filled with humor and a lot more steaminess than I thought it would have which I floved.
Belle is a pretty intriguing character, her inner monologue is pretty hilarious at times.
Jacek (really love the name), Eddie and Sawyer are a curious trio, completely different from one another except for the one thing they have in common, they are vampires, and I cannot wait to get to know more about them.
The storyline holds a pretty steady pace throughout the entire book and gives us little bits of background info that really helps the flow of the story. I'm pretty excited to continue reading this series.
