I didn’t read any of the novellas on my first, second and third read-through this series but this time I decided to give this one a try because *spoilers for in the afterlight* I always kind of wondered who Zu was talking about when Ruby finds her in the third book and when I saw this book was focused around him it spiked my interests. Even knowing for the whole book that he dies I kind of blocked it in my mind? Like I didn’t believe it would happen. So it hit like a truck. I’m crying right now writing this because I’m so sad. Bro had an amazing character arc and he died. When will we let Zu have a calm life? I think never. Sis doesn’t get a break. Anyway, I love Gave, I love Liam’s parents, I love Zu. If only the world didn’t have to suck.

I was not planning to read this novella. I was going to skip it and just start Never Fade but I finally decided to read it and it was better than I expected.

I really liked getting a different perspective from someone who wasn’t a kid and who was experiencing this from the other side of things. I really loved seeing his relationship form with a familiar character from The Darkest Minds.

The ending was sad and it crushed me. How did Alexandra Bracken make me cry in a novella??
