Olivie Blake doesn't disappoint.

The thing I love the most about every book of hers I've read is the atmosphere and the descriptions. The plot isn't important, even if it is equally good in this book, but the writing captures my attention and fascinates me more than anything.

One For My Enemy is an intense love story, it is ambiguous enough that depends how you look at it it can be a tragedy or have a happy ending. I loved every second of the reading.

A killer book from one of my favourite authors.

fantasy fatigue hit really strongly with this one , which is frustrating considering that this was relatively light fantasy. the plot was okay. i just didn’t care about anyone.

Roman, I have mixed feelings about you, but I definitely think he was the best written character in this book and I enjoyed his POV.

This is one of books those that is not for everyone, you will neither love it or hate it. I do not think there will be an in-between. This one is for the Shakespeare lovers and dramatics. One for my Enemy was so extra in the best possible way. I enjoyed it so much which was surprising because I went into thinking I would not like it because I unfornarely did not like Masters of Death very much and I dnf’d Alone with you in the ether. Olivie Blake’s back list books are a hit or miss when it comes to stories. Her writing is always consistent as far as I have read. 

 

One for my Enemy has a wide range of characters and it is told from many perspectives. So I did find myself getting confused for the first 50 pages or so. It follows two rival witch families, one with many sisters and the other with many brothers. As I mentioned before this one is for the Shakespeare lovers just this is a Romeo and Juliet retelling (but with witches), so it has it wall, love, death, tragedy, family drama and so much more. It is a very character heavy story these characters are dramatic, frustrating and sometimes annoying but they were fun to read about, and everyone has a nickname. 

 

In normal Shakespearean fashion the story gets morbid and there is a lot of mention of blood, death and murder. Basically everyone is trying to kill each other. But there is also romance and it was very beautifully written with poetic prose and many dramatic declarations of love. 

 

"I will always love you, I will love you until the day I die and if you're the one to kill me, then by all means, you should know without a trace of doubt that you will not have turned me away. I will have spent the final beat of my heart loving you, just as I always have. Only you Masha."
