If you’d have asked me in the first 2/3 of the book what I thought of it, I’d have said I loved it and given it a 4.5/5 stars. The characters are given so much life through charming moments, funny dialogue and this carries a large part of the novel. But the structure and pacing of the novel is indicating the authors’ attempt to make it equally plot-driven, and unfortunately, this is where it lost me. Towards the finale, it became such a slog to finish. The way their large cast of characters came together at the end for the literal apocalypse (should be cool and epic?) was so anticlimactic and uninspiring. By far the most egregious example of this is
with how much time we spent building up the 4 horsemen and how interesting they were only for them to poof out of existence within the span of half a page?? Genuinely what the fuck was that
. It felt like Gaiman and Pratchett had so much fun coming up with these interesting characters and really dug in there but just got tired when it came to resolving the plot and made it painful to get through. The finale was a 1 star out of 5 for me so I’m splitting the difference in my total rating.

A while after watching the short TV series, I finally read Good Omens, which everyone has been telling me to read for years. It was funny, though a lot of things happened at once. The first half of the book really felt as though I was missing part of the series, like when you accidentally pick up book two in a series, and while it does stand on its own, you miss some important details about the characters.
