First off I would like to say I thought the premises of the book was great and the first few chapters were riviting. But as I kept reading I came to the conclusion that the target demographic for this book is conservative high school students.

I found the main character infuriatingly naive and I kept finding myself relating with the main antagonist. The worst part of the book was the ending which had far too many emotions and, in my opinion, ended in my least favorite outcome. I probably would not read anything else by this author.

I loved this book more for how it was written than what it was about. While the plot was engaging and interesting, a new take on some old tropes, I just really enjoyed how it was written. It was a smooth, quick read.

This was a unique premise and good story. I had a little trouble suspended my disbelief at times but I still enjoyed the book.

Well.. don’t quite know how much I liked this book so might just change the rating after thinking about that a while. It was a nice concept but I would have liked to read more about the fungus itself, about brother Paul and less about the decrypting/NSA/military strategy. This book could have been at least 1/3rd shorter and still it would have had all the necessary plot elements. Not a bad book but for me, it was just ok.

5 stars for being a standout gripping medical/technothriller. Maybe 4 for the writing (a little loose in the last few chapters).

You've read what it's about - a fungal infection that threatens governments, society and our notion of civilization. I'd put it squarely in the "Crichton" category, though it's less science run amok and more biology on a tear.

Still, it's a Crichton, and we could use a lot more as well written as this is. Walton should be proud of his accomplishment.

Highly recommended!
