This sat in my TBR pile for so long, and I’m so glad I finally read it — it was totally worth the hype. I loved this book. I loved the characters, the plot, the setting. It honestly feels like nothing I’ve ever read before. I liked it so much more than I expected. I was hooked from the start; the main character’s voice is so sharp and funny, even in the darkest moments. I loved how The Wedding People tackled raw, heavy topics with dark humor — it made it all so much more digestible and was such a good reminder to find the humor in everything. The characters are insufferable sometimes, but also funny and vulnerable and human. While some of the plot was a little unbelievable, their growth was really heartwarming. If you’ve ever struggled with depression or feeling like you’re just going through the motions without truly living, this book will hit hard. This was a really hopeful, beautiful reminder of what it means to be alive.

Worth the hype! This was funny and introspective with an engaging cast of characters. I loved going with Phoebe on her journey and felt very connected with her. I do think some of her realizations were a little too convenient and her growth faster than would be realistic but I’ll attribute that to the limitations of a <400 page book set over the span of one week. It had themes surrounding honesty, choices, and aging that were thoughtfully explored, and overall I really enjoyed it!
