After years of infertility and a traumatic divorce from her husband during the pandemic, Phoebe checks into a fancy manor to kill herself. Little does she know that she will encounter an entire wedding party and meet the bride in the elevator. Phoebe becomes a pivotal part of the wedding and has to come to terms with her past while getting to know the bride, groom and their families. Raw, heartbreaking, but also terribly funny and relatable.

Omg I was so afraid of this book being a letdown. The cover of the book definitely matches the vibe of the book. It feels like a modern day retelling of early 1900s book. Loved every second of it. Dark humor throughout, but doesn't ruin the beautiful setting. Cant say much without spoilers, but it's up there for my favorite of the year.

TW miscarriage.

Okie doke, this was quite and interesting adventure. This book was originally a DNF for me. I stopped after reading for maybe an hour. I can in hindsight 100% understand why I decided to stop this and I do not blame myself at all.

It’s important for readers to know that there is not a lot of story here. It really is almost a non fiction prose about (what I assume is) the author’s ideas about life and depression. Even moreso it seems like the author just really went through an existential crisis. I think Allison’s writings and ideas are very profound and there are a LOT of great thoughts and thought-connections, and things that act as catalyst for life and thoughts. I think I have figured it out - if you like non-fiction, you very well may love this book. However, I love a good story. I love growth. But I don’t love a 150 hour tour in a character’s head.  If it doesn’t read like a non fiction, then at the very least it is basically a reality show, another area of media I don’t usually love.

So, if you are in the mood for reading An extremely book that is centered on existential thoughts, you should love it!

I thought I was getting a meet-cute and I got a 12 hour long essay. I listened to the whole book at 1.5-2.0 speed. While I hate zooming through audio books (I usually LOVE to pause and build a scene in my head slowly, even while reading silently), I couldn’t go fast enough. Like, I literally could have listened even FASTER, but legit the audio fast gave me some sensory issues (but I had no problem processing it that quickly and my brain wanted to process MORE, FASTER).

A book about simply being alive, and choosing to live as we are. As humans, sometimes we think too much and care too much. So much so that we often forget that we're simply alive. What a beautiful little book.
