This book is a complicated one to rate because I somewhat disliked it for the whole first half but I’m glad I continued reading because it’s made me think. As someone who likes to connect with and root for characters, they all felt quite distant and rather unlikable to me for a good portion of the book but I also feel like that was one of the goals of the story was to see these characters at a remote distance and then, like Phoebe, begin to enjoy them as Phoebe came back to life and grew more attached and appreciative of the wedding people. It was an interesting approach to this story and I began to like and appreciate the characters towards the end.

While I could understand the humor objectively, I found this book more quirky and like a slow burn on the humor.  I really liked Phoebe and Gary’s banter and enjoyed Layla, Phoebe, and Juice/Melanie’s honesty and Marla’s bluntness. I continue to not understand the appeal of writing about super rich people.

The idea of not letting fear of change prevent you from starting a new chapter is a strong one which resonates. While I don’t think I experience this personally, this book also drills home the lesson of not letting the appearance of propriety or happiness prevent from feeling true happiness or being truly yourself.
