I listened to this one, and found the number of characters I had to keep in my head a bit daunting at first. But gradually I became immersed in their individual stories and thoughts. The women are different and we see them in their own eyes, and those of the other members of the family. There is wonderful observation of the children. Again they are sharply delineated. The little boys are sensitive and anxious, but Teddy is already turning into another Edward. I fear for brutalisation in their future. The girls are earnest and have their own anxieties.

Disappointed - I have had this on my “ to read “ pile for so long and had it ordered from the library especially - was looking forward to getting into a long family saga but I just couldn’t get into the writing style - short little vignettes about a huge cast of characters that I just found too bitty - I should probably have given it longer but there are so many other titles demanding my limited reading time I am very picky - sorry cazalet family !
