Abbandonato a metà per indifferenza e noia assolute. E pensare che ci sono altri quattro libri in questa saga. Ma anche no, mi fermo qui risparmiandomi questa tortura. Estremamente sopravvalutato.

This book was wonderful in every way. Each character was deliberately and cleverly narrated with such care, their point of view so wonderfully described I immediately understood them. The story is that of a large upper middle class family in 1938 and that’s it. Just the daily occurrences, ups, downs, trials and tribulations of your average well to do family of the time. Obviously I will be reading the rest of the series while wondering what other amazing authors I have completely failed to discover!

This was recommended to me so long ago that I don’t remember who, and for some reason I thought it was an older book, not historical fiction. But I’m totally invested in the Cazalets now, and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the rest.
Non è un quattro pieno, vado dritta al punto, per una buona parte del tempo mi sono annoiata a leggere di queste due lunghe estati con tutte queste persone!
Sono (quasi) riuscita ad inquadrare le figlie solo verso la fine, ogni tanto dovevo tornare indietro a guardare la genealogia all'inizio del libro per non confondermi.
Una grande famiglia quella dei Cazalet, quattro figli: Edward, Hugh, Rupert e Rachel. Tutti sposati tranne Rachel, con due o tre figli.
Ogni famiglia ha i suoi problemi da affrontare, il lavoro in azienda per i primi due fratelli, la crescita dei figli e la vita di coppia.
Mi aspettavo altro, soprattutto dopo aver letto "Figlie di una nuova era". Non so perché avessi immaginato che fosse simile ma in chiave "inglese", con già in questo primo libro lo scoppio della guerra. Credo che la delusione nasca da questo ma anche per la lentezza della storia e per la lunghezza. Non vedevo l'ora di finirlo, forse con meno pagine....
Sono però fiduciosa e credo che avrei dovuto leggere sin da subito il secondo, per non far passare troppo tempo e dimenticare la composizione e le dinamiche delle singole famiglie, riunite sotto la guida del Generale e della Duchessa.
