this is the beach episode of the series but it's a lake of souls or maybe an ova between seasons as it adds little to nothing to the main plot but keeps you entertained while you just reaalllyyy want to know what's gonna happen next in the main plot

Darren and Harkat decide it is time to go on the quest to find out who Harkat was. Mr Tiny puts them through a gateway to a savage world with deserts, monsters and constant danger, seeking out the Lake of Souls where they must fish for Harkat's old identity.

I didn't find this book too interesting although Harkat is one of my favourite characters in the series. It just felt as if this was thrown in to delay the big final fight between the vampire races. I didn't like the pirate character and I don't really see the point of having him in the story. The net could have been obtained anywhere in that world. He just bugged me.

The big reveal about who Harkat was-well that was the only really interesting part of the book. Even then, the traitor of the vampire race only got to escape the lake for a few minutes, long enough for him to sacrifice himself to allow Harkat to keep his soul. It was all a bit quick and rushed and more time could have been devoted to such an important scene.
