Book club book #2

Things I liked:
  1. The beginning of this book had me hooked. I was loving every interaction.
  2. The weather magic was fun.
  3. The family dynamics of the Summerlea royals are rich and tragic
  4. Khamsin is a smart and tough FMC
  5. Wynter is a smart and tough MMC

Things I didn’t like:
  1. The number of times Khamsin
called down lightning to heal/kill got to be a bit redundant. It made it less special of a gift.
  2. Why oh why would smart and tough Khamsin who
was willing to kill her brother with Roland’s sword  then change her mind and allow him to live???
    It makes no sense.
  3. No one on Khamsin’s side died so the battle stakes didn’t feel real which means you never have a feeling of suspense that anyone is in true peril.
  4. I really enjoyed the first half of the book, but the last half could have used some heavy editing. The first half of the book was 4 ⭐️

It looks like a historical bodice ripper. It is NOT! This is what they mean when they say don’t judge a book by its cover (although the cover art is BEAUTIFUL).

The FMC (Kham) is a little inexperienced (given the context it makes total sense). Her dad is evil (which I’m not going to go into but I hate when romances have evil fathers, it’s a personal squick). I didn’t know this book had sequels until earlier today, I definitely want to pick them up! I was fortunate my library had a copy of this available to read (in print!) and I would have rated this 4 stars instead of 5 except that it’s the first time I wanted to keep a library book for myself (I did return it, I promise). Currently searching for my own copy of this!
