I thoroughly enjoyed this look at the Senate through Padme's eyes as a brand new senator. Most of the Star Wars books I've read, which isn't a ton, focus more on the action and adventure than the background stuff. And while I love the action and blaster fire it was nice to see a different side of things.

Don't go into this book expecting a lot of plot. It exists to provide more detail and color to one of the best ideas of the prequels with the least execution, Padme's handmaidens. There's pure fun wish fulfillment in fleshing out these characters and how a team of barely post-adolescent girls manipulate intergalactic politics. Importantly, the clothes descriptions are to die for.

The downside of this book is that it will make you so sad about Padme's character in the second and third films. What a fucked up travesty it is to create such an elegant, intelligent, admirable character and tie her down to a self-obsessed, abusive child with the emotional maturity of a teaspoon. She deserved better. We deserved better.

**3.5 Stars Rounded Up**

I liked it. But I didn’t love it as much as I wished that I had. The book gave me a lot of insight into Sabe’s character, but not a lot into Padmé s. I did learn new information however. About the Star Wars world and the Alderaan family. The whole time I was sad reading the book. Because every time they talked about how much time they had together, I knew it would be cut short. Padmé could have done so much more. She was a good soul. A good queen, and a good politician. Especially when one considers how few and far between those are.

I’m curious what Sabé goes next, but I don’t know if I’m going to read the next book. Probably not.

I'm going to put this in the nicest way I possibly can: I'd rather stare down a lightsaber then switch it on than read this drivel again. At least I didn't spend money on this.
