i liked this a lot more than the film! executed nearly perfectly although i felt some fan service ran a little too deep for my liking. still, the hanging tree was perfect. i liked also that this actually showed the insanity of snow. the film i don’t think did. i held off from reading this for so long because i felt he didn’t ‘need’ a backstory but honestly i see this now as a sort of kathartic memory of an earlier time. for the same reason i watched the film nearly 2 years ago and again didn’t care for it but i think now i understand a little better. collins does know what she’s doing when everything is in her hands. the third person i also found interesting, especially since it’s from his perspective. small things. i enjoyed.

I knew this story from the film (yes, ultimate sacrilege, I know, but Rachel Zegler), and had mixed feelings about the book, while the people I watched the film with had mixed feelings about that.

I say I have mixed feeling about the book itself. Not about the protagonist. I very strongly disliked Coriolanus by the end. Who did this guy think he was? He has no understanding of how relationships work, which is quite significant considering he is in one for about half the book.

The only person I hated more than Coryo was this Dr Gaul character. I don’t think that needs any explanation.

I understand that disliking these characters was the point. The cast was somewhat redeemed by Lucy Gray and the Covey, Tigris and Plubrius.

I didn’t hate this book entirely, I just didn’t think it had the same top-tier world building as the original book.

Redeemable qualities included the songs. Though others I spoke to about this book disliked them as a reoccurring theme. Other redeemable qualities include the fact it actually made me gasp near the end, when Coriolanus’ crimes are visualised.

Though I don’t think it answered too much of the President Snow question. Sure, now we understand his twisted values and motives, and I guess we have a faint path as to how he came into power, and there are some reoccurring rose references.

Not the best. I thought I was going to be obsessed with this book..! Turns out I was wrong.

The plot- It was slow, I mean there was like a good 200 hundred pages of day to day life! I feel like there was not enough action. I really like action, and for A HUNGER GAMES BOOK to not have enough action is just crazy!

Characters- Mk so now to the part everyone wants to hear about, Snow.
I hated him. He was just to selfish to think of anybody but himself. Like in the end when he just abandons Lucy Gray in the woods, WHEN SHE COULD HAVE BEEN IN DANGER is just crazy to think about! I mean Coriolanus loved her, I think...
Sejanus- I think hes really sweet! I mean he ends his life in a not so pretty way, but thats ok. He kinda lost it at the end there with everything that happened and all. I think he lived his life to the fullest potential!
Lucy Gray- Her music was beautiful! She didnt have much character development, I think. She was still a great character though. At first I think she was kinda hard to love, because of the whole snake incident at the reaping thing. Theres not much to say about her except that she has horrible taste, I mean she liked Snow! Thats just a crime thinking about him, but let alone DATE him?!
Ma- I really had to make a comment about her, I DID! I loved her so much and her sweet personality (and cooking). I feel like I could taste her delicious baking and cooking. Ma is most likely my favourite character.

Things that I will remember forever- Ok so quite a bit of things happened here, I mean it is a 500+ page book so...
The cannibal part at the beginning is just kinda, maybe, gonna stay in my mind forever. I mean they eat a womans leg! How is that not disturbing?!
When Lamina cut Marcus´ head of, its just kinda like not the best to picture.
When Jessup died I cried, I mean, I would have shipped Lucy Gray and Jessup if he had not diesd that terrible death. They would have not ended up together anyways because they were in the hunger games, BUT STILL.
If you cant tell Im just writing short things about things that happened, so ONTO THE NEXT!
Ok so on page 443-444 there is this really sappy moment with Sejanus and Coriolanus WHERE THEY HUG AND SAY REALLY SAPPY STUFF TO EACH OTHER, while im reading a book about the evil president who in his past years is HUGGING someone. For some reason thats just so unbelievable to me.
The FUNNIEST part of this book is when Maude Ivory is singing ¨Stay on the sunny side always on the sunny side of liiiiffeee¨ Whilst back stage people are KILLING each other, like What is going on here?

I need to have a little discussion about avoxes...

WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO THESE PEOPLE????????!!!!!!!!!
