This book will always hold a special place in my heart. This hands down is my favorite Hunger Games book. The movie is trash, but the book is- 🥺🥺🥺

Wow. I

Coriolanus snow. Yikes . This book was masterfully written. The slow rise to power ??
sejanus!! I loved him instantly, I was really rooting for him
I'm so sad for him. I wanted to
throw this book at the wall when Coryo did what he did.
the way they tried to erase the games from existence only for that to *definitely go to plan*. Even years later he can’t get away.

The games! The build up to them was horrifIc. I am stunned.
Lucy. Gray. Baird. Fabulous, just divine. I love her. No notes.
parts of this book will stay with me f o r e v e r

3.5 stars rounded down cuz I was honestly so bored half the time & every page consisted of one big paragraph.

the switch up in the last chapter rly sold this book for me. it dragged on so long and so unnecessarily at times but the internal monologue was so vile. Sejanus just wanted his freedom :’( Snow had so many chances to redeem himself and he always just spiraled deeper into crazy. I loved the world of Lucy Gray and seeing how she ruined Coryo’s life til the end through Katniss. I’ve run out of things to say bc it’s just too much depth of his character but here’s some of my fav quotes from the book:

"Well, you know what they say. The show's not over until the mockingjay sings," she said.

okay foreshadowing in a prequel written 10 years later ayyyyy

Oh, a ghost story. Ugh. Boo. So ridiculous. Well, he'd try hard to love it when he saw the Covey tomorrow. But, really, who named their child after a ghost girl?

I know we’re supposed to hate him but this made me laugh the way it was written.

The lake water had reduced his mother's rose-scented powder to a nasty paste, and he threw the whole thing in the trash. The photos stuck together and shredded when he tried to separate them, so they went the way of the powder. Only the compass had survived the outing.

the finality of him shedding the goodness of his family and fully becoming evil like his father.

He was glad about the erasure. It was just one more way to eliminate Lucy Gray from the world.

who’s gonna tell him…

She could fly around District 12 all she liked, but she and her mockingjays could never harm him again.

this line just makes the end of the trilogy so much sweeter.

I'm debating to make this 3 stars, because I listened this the first time and then it was fine, but now I read it and that made this much more of a struggle to complete haha. I kind of lost interest around 75% of this book, which led to me taking ages to finish this book because I picking it up again took a lot of effort. For me the end was a bit too sudden as well, I forgot what happened and it was crazier evil than I remembered. I do still think that it's so interesting to read a book of someone who is a bad guy and not getting a sort of justification, but more seeing how he got there (as in he makes the (evil) choices himself and just progressively gets worse)

I had a hard time putting this book down! It was disturbing and interesting to learn more about Snow and I wish we could learn what exactly happened to Lucy Gray.
