Don't know how often I now have returned to this series and I still love it!
Still a lot of feelings at Hatori's part story.

This is difficult to rate because I watched the anime adaptation of this first, which is very dear to me. I just don't know if the manga can live up to my love of the show. It's not only my favorite anime but also one of my favorite shows in general (the 2019 reboot, NOT the original adaptation; that's trash and I stand by that 😝 ).
So far the 2019 reboot has been pretty faithful to the manga. The first volume just scratches the surface of the dark undertones that I know are coming later. But Takaya has a gift for balancing light and dark. She explores human nature beautifully. Her characters seem so real; honestly she does some of the best character work I've ever seen in any media format.
The blurb doesn't really cover how deep this story is, so don't let it fool you. If you enjoy stories about flawed characters, trauma, grief, mental illness, the power of human connection, healing, and personal growth then pick this up (or go watch the 2019 reboot!). Yes it gets quite dark, but it's evened out by humor, slice of life coziness, and loveable characters.
