It took me awhile to get into this book, but as soon as I did, I couldn't put it down! Advice for those looking to pick this up: completely ignore the synopsis on the back cover. The story touches on that sub-plot maybe 20 pages out of the book, and really it could have been removed completely.

I will definitely be looking at the next book, I hope it's as good as this one!

4 ⭐️ On reread. Amy was a bit annoying, but overall a fun romance.

Not a safe Romance! A smut book.

I shouldn't have red it. Had to skip over parts to see how it ended.

Seriously, who would have nearly sex on a boat being rowed by a stranger. Ick!

This was a very fun read. The references to the Scarlet Pimpernel made my heart happy. The contemporary story didn't really hold my interest too much but I'll be curious to see how it plays out in some of the other books. The historical portion of the book was the most fun though I really could have done without the more explicit sex scenes. They didn't really fit with the rest of the story. Amy was too silly for my tastes but she does make for an intriguing heroine. However, I'm just hoping that one of the later books in the series focuses on Jane as she and Miss Gwyn were my absolute favorites! This is not the sort of book to read if you want serious historical fiction. It is the type of book you read for fun escapism though.

I quite liked this book. It's somewhat of a mish-mash of genres - chick lit, history, spy, romance all rolled into one book. I wasn't too keen on the back and forth between modern day and 1800s England/France at first. The present storyline just wasn't as interesting as the Pink Carnation story though it did grow on me by the end.

The main story was that of Richard and Amy though. I liked the dynamic between the two. They have that sort of arguing banter that I love. I liked that Amy was smart and not helpless (though she did do some dumb things). There were some parts that were a bit far fetched. The most noticeable being that the strict chaperone would allow two young girls to plot and them implement a plan to thwart the French government or that Richard and Amy would engage in some rather scandalous behavior in a boat in public. Overall though the book was a fun read and I will probably pick up the next book in the series.
