Sometimes it's hard to understand about how life continues and changes when major historical events are happening in a region or country. This book helps to see that even in the middle of confusion and chaos, people still try to find sense and continue with their lives. But missing loved one will always be the hardest part.

I love the expressive illustrations. So much emotion is conveyed in the shading.

I don't read many graphic novels because (sorry) I hate holding them. It's the format... but someone on a podcast suggested downloading them on my iPad and I did just that and enjoyed this a lot. I liked the story and i like the art.

This was a very fast read! I enjoyed the narrative overall, it was just a little juvenile.

An emotional, beautiful book. The text and illustrations are each rather strightforward, but combined they create a very heartfelt story of Dasha's life in Russia. A lot of the story and emotion is left to be in inferred by the reader - yes, Dasha's mom is gone for the year as the title suggests, but the impact of that loss is shown and never told. It is such well-rounded portrait of Dasha, and I loved this glimpse into her life. The look at life in Russia, through the eyes of a child, was also engaging. The art might not appeal to every reader, but I found it gorgeous.

Great.
Great story about coming of age, changes, and how similar life can be over a span of many years. Relatable to many kiddos-especially those dealing with unexpected change.

I really enjoyed this book up until the end. I'm all for cliff hangers, but this just...ended. Like out of nowhere.
