This was a really sweet story, it was filled with laughter, trauma and healing, and that to me is the needed mixed for a good story. I didn't full connect to the story but the representation was amazing.
Talia is a really good writer and never fails to provide the best comfort reads with amazing family dynamics with realistic and relatable FMCs.

Dani and Zafir both have their own trauma and challenges they are working through but they have such a pure love when they work through it.

This is too cute and adorable!

I love the modern witch vibes from Dani! I love how real the characters were written, their struggles are something you see and deal with everyday. I enjoyed every bit of it, it wasn’t also your typical fake dating trope but I love how it was presented.

I haven’t read the first book, Get a Life Chloe Brown but not because it’s not good but because I wasn’t as interested in the plot as this one. If I get around to reading Eve’s story by 2021, then I’ll have to read the first book too.

Nonetheless, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. Seriously. If you want an empowered and nerdy modern witch, matched with a big grumpy but soft and romantic man — this is the way to go!

Holy f! The banter between the two MCs in this book is some of the best I've read.

I honestly went into this book thinking there was no way that I would like this one more than the first one..... I stand completely corrected on that. I loved everything about this book. I found this story so perfectly relatable to my own life and feel so lucky for that. Again I loved the depth that the author gave to the male lead Zafir, it is so important for men to know their emotions are normal and have ways to handle them. I could relate to Dani for several reasons, feeling uncomfortable with my own emotions, making sarcastic comments when my partner says cheesy things, as well as just being a bit guarded. I felt the growth she went through when she finally accepted herself and had a partner who brought these things out in her. I look forward to listening to the next book in this series.

I liked the romance and the third act conflict the best in this one, but Dani is my least fav Brown Sister. There were some things she said in the beginning that really rubbed me the wrong way the rest of the book wasn't able to change my mind. Zafir kept saying that underneath that prickly exterior she is actually the nicest person ever and that she is kind to everyone, when in reality she never meaningfully interacts with anyone but Zafir (and occasionally Sorcha).

It's bloody hard to rate some of these books because I'm mostly responding to their place within my expectations and their genre but let me tell you, this book is leaps and bounds better than the first one in the series. There's so much grounded and believable characterization and relationship depth. They're both extremely attractive and likable. Is it trying to change the world or make you see the things differently? Absolutely not. But is it trying to be fun? Yeah, and it succeeds. It's a nice, escapist time.

Trigger warnings: death, grief, panic attacks, cheating, lying

February 2023: It's been such a joy reading this series again! I haven't had a chance to re-read the third book, but I think it's definitive for me that this one is my favorite of them all. There is something just so beautiful about Dani and Zaf's relationship. Hibbert's writing is not only super funny and entertaining, but so heartwarming. She is a master at creating characters that feel 100% real and complex and honest. Dani is such a confident and determined person; I love how much effort she puts into her goals and how hard she works at making them happen. On the other hand, Zaf is the ultimate cinnamon roll; the sweetest, most kindhearted love interest I have had the pleasure to come across. The fact that their romance is based on a sweet foundation of friendship and they slowly begin to trust each other with more vulnerable experiences and feelings makes this such a wonderful romance. I love the way the harder topics are handled and how both characters do their best to support each other. It's just SO GOOD. If you haven't read this series yet, I don't know what you're doing with your life haha. I am both excited and dreading re-reading the third book because then it will be over!
