I loved this! I feel bad that it was sitting on my bookshelves for so long, but that is the nature of the TBR pile.

I really like the illustrations and translations of letters--the match of style and content is well done, both filled with sadness and a bit of wonder. The framing device didn't compel me, but also didn't irritate.

I think I overdosed on graphic novels :( I still love them!!! I'm just not in the mood right now

I don't want to rate this book because I picked it up knowing full-well that I don't like graphic novels. With that said, all this book did for me was convince me that I have to find an actual non-graphic book about the Bintel Briefs, because they are an interesting snippet of Jewish history.

I might be biased because these kinds of new Jewish immigrant stories resonate with me personally...and Liana Finck is one of my favorite comics writer right now. Her instagram is a treasure, for real. Now I want to read more of the Bintel Brief columns.

I ordered this book from the library based on Allie's review, and the really interesting premise, but it didn't come together for me at all. I thought the strongest material was from the Forward, and the author didn't really add much (either with her meta narrative or with her art). The source material was great and I was happy to see it being brought to light, but I wasn't super impressed with the use.

2015 Challenge: 46/40

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I've never read anything like it. There aren't that many stories about Jews out there so since I'm part Jewish, I really enjoyed myself and reading some yiddish. All in all a unique and fun read
