Just not feeling it. Rachel being a child bride was hard for me to swallow. And then I also couldn't tell where the author was headed, and it was stressing me out.

It was alright. I think it might have been better (because it was a well written and good story) if I had any idea who these people were... I've not read the Bible- and therefore - these apparently important people - this story of the women's side when the Bible speaks of the men's side... was entirely lost to me.
I would not recommend it as highly to someone who is not familiar with the biblical story of the family - but otherwise - it was a pretty good story.

A must read! Such a thought provoking book that makes you consider the role of a woman, in life and in a home as a wife and as a mother.

I really didn't like the first half of this book, but by the end, I absolutely loved it!! So glad our book club selected it!!

This book is for women, men who want to understand women, and people who want to understand ancient Jewish culture and some biblical history. Did Oprah have this on her book club list? She should have.

The relationships portrayed between the main female characters in this book are absolutely beautiful. That's not to imply that everyone gets along all the time, but every woman is a complete, living, breathing being, and you can't help but love them, flaws and all. As someone deeply interested in midwifery, and the ancient world, I have a huge soft spot for this book. Lots of excellent exploration of Divine Feminine in this piece as well. The ending of the book was a disappointment for me, not terrible, it just felt rushed and did not live up the excellent pace of the first 3/4 of the novel. However, I loved the first 80% of the novel and would still heartily recommend it :)
