The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible As Literally As Possible

I wish I had not spent the time I did reading the first half of this book. It is not because the Levitical laws discussed, but the fact that the author’s voice is self absorbed. It was reminiscent of a bad stand up routine, save yourself the trouble.
This book was hilarious AND educational. I couldn't put it down.
Fun book. I listened rather than read. May have been a little exhausting in print.
I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to others. It is humorous, insightful, and thought-provoking. A must read!
I still find this author's voice grating, but his books interesting.
I'm not sure I'd be willing to take on this challenge myself, so it was great to experience it through A.J. Jacob's book. The book had high points and low points, which I'm sure is also true of the author's experience. The point is for him to reveal how ridiculous it is to take things to the extreme, but to my surprise he also takes some tidbits to heart.
During his year he encounters some major life events (like the birth and death of loved ones) as well as the everyday moments, and it was interesting to see Jacobs's application of biblical teachings to these versus the more secular approach he might otherwise have taken. I appreciated his dedication to research all things biblical, his honest reflection, and especially his humor.
It's not a gripping read, but I enjoyed reading a little bit each day. (It's journal-style format makes it easy to parcel the book into small reading sessions; good for reading while on the go.) Definitely worth a try!

I think I actually enjoyed this more than I enjoyed [book: The Know-It-All]; there was something more innocent and less pedantic about the way Jacobs moved through his year of following every law laid out in the Bible (though frequently not all of them at once). He's a good writer either way, though, and funny, so I'll definitely keep reading his stuff.
Great book. Nice balance between exploration and irreverence. Something for everyone, highly recommended.
Very fun and thoughtful look into the Bible and its teachings. Much of the book explores what, as anyone who claims to be religious and God-loving, you believe and what do you ignore from the word of God.
